Compounding for the Green Economy

The “green” economy is changing the materials selection criteria for the majority of plastics applications, for both durable and single-use plastics.

Compounders are faced with this new reality to maximize use of recycled resins, bio-based fillers and fibers and biodegradable polymers using existing equipment designed for traditional (i.e. petrochemical-based) compound formulations. The modular design of co-rotating intermeshing twin-screw extruders allows for easy reconfiguration of the extruder and screws to adapt to the unique requirements for successful production of ‘sustainable’ materials. The specific processing challenges for compounding some of the newer ‘green’ materials are reviewed in this webinar.
